3rd Aberdeen Grammar vs Methlick 1st X1 03.05.2024

Grade 2 kicked off on a dreary Saturday afternoon at Inverdee’s “curved” wicket. The long grass on a very wet outfield didn’t promise much in the way of runs and so the day turned out as a weakened Methlick side won the toss and decided to bat first against the previously Siyapa team, with the promise of more rain in the offing. It was very shortly after this that the adjoining match was abandoned due to the conditions.,

Two quick wickets of Ross Moir and Tom Acton fell to the pacy Bashir, both without scoring, for the visitors to get off to the worst possible start. Mark Woodhouse and Shahid Choudry steadied the ship but the wet ground prevented the ball from running across the ground and only the occasional single was there to be taken.

The innings lasted 35 overs when Methlick were eventually bowled out for 69. 30 more runs could have made the response from Grammar very interesting.

In reply Grammar found conditions also a challenge as superb opening spells from Butch Crutchfield, Fraser Grant and Tom Acton kept the scoring in check. It was only after a change in the bowling attack that Bashir decided to hit out and a bludgeoned 43 took the home side to victory for the loss of three wickets.

Hopefully a change in the weather will improve matters for next Saturday’s trip to Aberdeen against Knightriders. Saturday’s 2nd XI fixture at Lairds was postponed due to a sodden outfield.
